Margery Ann “Energizer Bunny” Cole (Yaeger) – 92 years young!
Marge was born in Buffalo and grew up on Dorris Avenue. She was one of five children born to Joseph & Theresa Yaeger. She attended St. Gerard’s School and St. Anne’s Business School. She was an active member in St. Gerard’s CYO. Marge had a special group of sorority sisters, who still meet for lunch to this day.
Mom met the love of her life at a New Year’s Eve party, which led to 69 years of marriage, 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
But what do we want you to know about Mom …
Marge was the definition of “doing for others”. No matter how busy or what was going on in her life, she always took care of everyone else. Her work ethic was, “there is no task beneath me and no task that we can’t accomplish by working together”. She was the organizer (the one everyone leaned on to make things happen). Always the host, the door to our home was open to everyone! When she would ask if you were staying for dinner, she would always say “don’t worry, we have loads” (truly was the fishes and loaves, not sure how she did it).
Mom loved camping, boating, fishing, cards, all games and especially sports. Sports of all kinds! She would bet on the horse races, but just $2.00 and always to show. She coached softball and was a scout leader.
The travel bug bit Mom, she loved adventure and if there was a boat, she was on it. She and Dad along with their siblings and friends took many cruises and she was heard to say, “that looks fun, let’s go there”.
The most important thing in Mom’s life was family & friends. She made time for everyone. She was a faithful servant, a longstanding member of St. Benedict’s Parish and member of the Rosary and Altar Society. Up until last year, Mom still did her own taxes, was bowling, working in the food pantry, and volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. The greatest compliment is when your friends say, “I want to be Marge when I grow up.”
When Mom found out she was ill, she made us promise “we are not going to tell your father, he will worry too much”. Dad never knew, nor did many of her friends. She wanted everyone to treat her the same and she said, “someone always has it worse; I have nothing to complain about, I have been truly blessed with an amazing life”.
Mom felt, “if you focus on the needs of others, it will lighten your load”.
On behalf of our family, we thank you for being such a special part of her life. All are welcome to be present at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
