I am not quite sure exactly when you entered my life...I am guessing it was when I was about six or so but it was like one day....BOOM...there you were.  Larger than life and full of bluster.  So animated and expressive and fun!  I remember my mother’s first introduction to you.  We were busy planning a kool-aid stand and my mother put the kibosh on it.  You wanted to try to convince her to let us have our stand so you rang our bell and in your best broken English you excitedly burst forth as she opened the door....”Mrs Paolini....WHY FOR YOU TO NOT LET JOANNE HAVE HER KOOL AID STAND?!?!”  My mother was at a loss....who was this kid!  Not only would she find out who you were but she would grow to love you as much as we all did. You were in my life as I grew up....A valued and loved  member of our little Harriet Street family.  As an adult my favorite memories are of going out for breakfast at 12:00 midnight to The Four Seasons with you and Gay and Francine.  Others would join us and we would sit all night long talking and laughing....and laughing and laughing.  No matter what was going on or how at times life  got hard you would always say....”At least we can laugh.”  
The last time I saw you was when my mom died three years ago.  I was walking back to my seat from receiving communion and you tapped my shoulder and said....”Joanne, you look so chic!  Your hair!..Beautiful..so stylish..oh, I am  so sorry about Mrs. Paolini.”   Typical Maurilio ....Fashion first.  That made my day. 

Thank you for moving to my little corner of the world and making my life more interesting.....thank you for being able to pick up on a conversation with me after not seeing each other for ten years like we had just taken a ten minute break.  Thank you for your love, your friendship and most of all thank you for the laughter.  Say Hi to Mr. and Mrs. Paolini for me.  And maybe this time my mom will let you have your kool aid stand when you ask.   Sleep well my friend.  Much love ❤️ 

I grew up with Maurilio on Harriett St. He was very close to my sister Hope. When Hope moved away, I became very close to him and Gay Gambin.  In the early seventies, we used to go for coffee at the Four Seasons, just about every night. He was hilarious and never hesitated to share his opinions about fashion, art, and food. He, Gay and my sister Hope were all in the CYO plays at St. Lawrence. I have so many great memories of him and that time in our lives. RIP Maurilio. It is the end of an era. Love you.

Sorry I can't be with you at this time of sorrow.  My hear and thoughts are with you during this time of grieving.  Please know you are not alone in remembering a truly wonderful person that meant so much to so many.

Remembrances of Maurilio Gianadda (Ricky):  I extend my deepest condolences to Ricky's family, his best friends, his acquaintances, his fellow teachers and classmates.   "Ricky," as we called him was born in Italy, emigrated to the United States as a young boy, and settled on Harriet Street in east Buffalo.  He quickly acquired the English language. and one would not have any idea that he was only in America for such a short period of time.  What I remember most about him is the humor which he exhibited through the stories that he would tell me during the 1960's.  I had not seen him for over twenty-five years until 2002 when he was reunited with my wife, Mary, at School 45 in Buffalo.  Amazingly I noticed that he acted and seemed just as kind and friendly as he was twenty-five years before.  During that time he was extremely kind to Mary, as he was in all of the friendships which he established.    Ricky was truly one of the most unforgettable people I have met.  He knew the news before it happened.  He cared deeply for his friends during all of the time that he knew them.  He was generous and very kind.  Unfortunately  throughout the past several years  Ricky was overcome with ailments, ailments which unfortunately took his life.   In describing him,  I would say that he was the luckiest, but most of all, the richest man in the world.  I say that because I now see how many people liked, loved and cared for him which is truly very rare in today's world.  And now his life and legacy belong to the ages.  I think that all of us who survive him can say that  we never met a better guy.  We all deeply mourn his loss, but Ricky, we will always go on loving you.  That will make us accept your loss a little easier.  You left an incredible presence in our hearts forever.  I know that you will rest in peace, and you will be forever remembered. Mauri was always the funniest, the most clever, the most giving person I ever knew. And if you ever wanted a review of a restaurant, he'd be the person to give it to you! He was generous to a point where you could never catch up with him. He will be missed by many in Oakbrook, where he was regular at the pool. Rest in peace, my friend. Don't forget to get a pass from Heaven to go to Wegmans everyday for your paper and Greg's for all your produce!  Miss you, Buddy.
