Irr, William G. “Bill” of Getzville, NY, born on July 2, 1931 passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on January 8, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia, while visiting his daughter during the Christmas holidays.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Amherst, a town he loved and never left, where he built a life rooted in family, friendship, and community. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Irr, who passed on May 7, 2025. Their 66 year marriage and devotion to family remained the foundation of his life.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Deborah Panebianco (James Merrill), Dr. William Irr, Jr., Douglas (Yehudit) Irr, and Denise (Craig) Hanson. He was a proud grandfather to Nicole (Nick) Krebser, Theresa Panebianco, Jake and Ryan Irr, Julia and Daniel Irr, Alyssa (Joe) Drummond, Elizabeth (Sam) Wilson, and Emily Hanson; and a cherished great-grandfather to Jack Krebser, Bode, Remington, and Benaiah Drummond, and Lenna Wilson; and step-grandfather to Denise, Turner and Sarita. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Irr, and his siblings John (Marilyn) Irr, Virginia (Loren) Durfee, and Nancy (Rodney) Kick.
Family meant everything to Bill. He remained close not only to his children and grandchildren, but also to his nieces, nephews, and their families. To many, he was lovingly known as “Great Uncle Bill.” Anyone in the family who hears the song “We Are Family” will forever think of Dad — a fitting tribute to the life he lived. Bill was a longtime member of the American Legion, Alfred J. Jurek Post #1672, reflecting his commitment to service and community. After retirement, he continued giving back as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, working on homes well into his 80s — a testament to his generosity, work ethic, and care for others.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love for family. Bill spent over 40 years as an owner at Faun Lake, Bliss, NY and made lifelong friends there. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed.
Family will be present for Memorial Visitation on Thursday March 5 from 4-7PM at the PERNA, DENGLER, ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME 1671 Maple Rd., Williamsville. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Friday March 6 at 11:30AM from St. Mary's Main Church in Swormville, NY. Bill will be laid to rest with his wife Patricia in the WNY National Cemetery in Corfu, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's name may be made to the Habitat for Humanity Buffalo.
