Alan Garber, age 86, former piccolo player for the Army Band. Loving ex-husband and companion of Phyllis (nee Matula) Garber; devoted husband of the late Beatrice Garber; father of Dale (Betty) Garber and the late Bruce Garber; brother of Charlotte Schwartz; grandfather of 4 granddaughters and great-grandfather of 2 great-granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons.
Alan was Chairman of the Board and owner of The Crawfords Stores, which were in business over 70 years. He was highly renowned and known in the music world for his mastery of the viola and conducting. He attended many music schools and played in the Evanston and Northbrook Symphonies.
Funeral services, Wednesday, February 1, 2012, 11 am at Weinstein Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL.
