Art lived a full and happy life. He believed in serendipity, which, he often quoted from the Oxford American Dictionary, means "The making of pleasant discoveries by random accident." He believed that much of his life changed, for the better, due to serendipitous events.
One thing that was not random was the marriage to his wife of nearly fifty years, Phyllis. They were inseparable from the moment they met, and enjoyed numerous years together traveling, living in Michigan and Illinois, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, or just sitting on the couch together watching a movie.
Art is also survived by his two sons, Steve and Eric, and their wives, Julie and Kortney; his grandchildren, Connor and Addison; his brother Stuart and Stuart's wife, Fredlyn; brother and sister-in-laws David and Ami; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and members of the MELS social group for retired men.
In Art's words, he was blessed with good genes from his parents that gifted him with being tall, smart, and fair looking. According to Art, his younger brother, Stuart, was also blessed with these genes but wasn't quite as good-looking. Sad but true.
A graveside service for friends and family will take place on Friday, February 20, 10AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL 60076, followed by a luncheon at Hackney's in Glenview.
