
Arthur L. Rosen, born April 30, 1934, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, June 5 at the age of 81, after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, "Peepah" (as his family affectionately called him) was a scientist (Ph.D. in physics, University of Chicago) who through his medical research was instrumental in developing the first synthetic blood. He also was an accomplished violinist, whose lifelong passion was playing chamber music with friends. With abundant knowledge, compassion, patience, and wit, Arthur was the go-to advisor for everyone who knew him. He was a loving and devoted caregiver for his first wife Arlene (nee Silver), who preceded him in death, and is survived by his wife Andrea Swan, his son David, daughter Laura, brother Howard (Mirriam), stepdaughter Jessica (Eric), stepson Christopher (Carrie), grandchildren (Hannah, Zachary, Shawn), step grandchildren (Henry, Frances), and nieces and nephews Amy, Ken, Ben (Ashleigh), and Gabe. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8 at 11:30 am at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette, IL, interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park (Arlington Heights). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival or a charity of your choosing. May his memory be for a blessing.
