Ellen Heimann

Ellen Louise Heimann, née Siegel, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Werner Heimann, loving mother of Sandra R. (Robert) Gegios and Nanci E. Wechsler, and caring grandmother of Alison and Andrew. Loved by extended family members and friends. Ellen, born in Leipzig, Germany, was a holocaust survivor who fled Nazi Germany in 1938 under the care of her father, Sam. She became a US citizen in Philadelphia, went on to live in Brooklyn and Great Neck, New York, and relocated to Chicago following her marriage. Ellen loved her jobs, her girls, her family and friends, her faith, music, and cats. She and Werner traveled and had many adventures with beloved Roz and Ernie. Her years were also enriched by friends and others at Lincolnwood Place and the Self Help Home. Ellen had loving, compassionate caregivers until the end. Her family is incredibly grateful to them.

Graveside service Wednesday, June 21, 12 PM at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL. Shiva will take place on Wednesday, June 21, following the service at Emanuel Congregation, 5959 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, and on Thursday, June 22, 4:30 PM until 6 PM at Self Help Home, 908 W Argyle St, Chicago, on the first floor.
