George Brent (Balasa) passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 9, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Brent; daughters Dawn Brent, Sari Farne (Tim Farne), Pamela Cohen (Michael Cohen), and Laura Rubin (Marc Rubin); grandchildren Emma and Stephen Decker, Franki and Gabrielle Cohen, Jake and Dillon Farne, and Will and Nate Rubin.
George, a Holocaust Survivor, was born in a small town in Czechoslovakia where he lived with his father Steven, the town’s pharmacist, mother Hinda, and younger brother Peter. At the age of 15, he and his family were taken to Auschwitz where his mother and brother perished. After liberation and finding each other, George and his father emigrated to the United States and made Chicago their home.
George went on to serve in the Air Force during the Korean War where he decided dentistry may be his calling. He eventually graduated from the University of Illinois Dental School and soon joined a dental practice. He taught at the University for many years. He continued to practice dentistry until he was 80 with offices in Chicago and Skokie.
George married his wife Nancy in 1979, and they made their home in Wilmette along with their dog Lexi. Nancy was by his side throughout his life, taking care of him in his final days at home.
George loved music and dancing. His longtime friends and colleagues all considered him an inspiration. He will be missed by all who loved and cherished him.
