

George lost the love of his life, Elayne (nèe Feinberg) over 6 years ago. They were a role model for their family for almost 60 years. George was born in Chicago, Illinois at a time where he could still remember seeing Model T’s driving the roads. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York and Chicago, Illinois where he graduated from Sullivan High School. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and very proudly served in the 494th Division in the Pacific as a Second Lieutenant Bombardier Navigator. His service to his country was a defining moment in his life. After WWII he returned to Chicago, Illinois and graduated from DePaul University on the GI Bill. He soon joined Maharam Fabrics which evolved into Design Craft, where he spent almost 45 years as a proud salesperson and eventually Director of Sales.
George and Elayne raised their family in Glencoe, Illinois and then moved to Chantilly in Highland Park, Illinois for the remainder of their lives together until George moved to downtown Chicago near his daughter. Family was everything to George and he demonstrated that every day of his life through the love and caring and interest he showed to his growing family. He is survived by his daughters Deborah Halpern (Philip) and Claudia Rayne (Chris); his grandchildren Ryan Werder, Danielle Werder, Kaitlin Rayne, Anne Rayne, Nicholas Halpern and Katie Halpern, as well as nine great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at 10am at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations in George’s memory may be made to I AM ALS, www.iamals.org or the charitable organization of your choice.
