
Joan Taxay–Weinger Pressman passed away on April 21 2020, Joan was a lifelong Chicagoan. She grew up on the north side of the city and graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and lived most of her adult life in Highland Park and Lake Forest.
Joan was an accomplished professional artist and educator whose work received critical acclaim throughout her career. She was represented by Sonia Zaks Gallery in Chicago and participated in countless exhibitions locally and nationally. As an educator she developed the curriculum and taught classes in creativity and art theory as well as teaching countless painting and drawing courses at Columbia College of Chicago, the North Shore Art League (where she was also a board member) and in Highland Park and Lake Forest.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 30 years Paul Weinger. Thereafter, she married Charles Pressman who she was with until his death in 2015. Joan is survived by her children Steven, Lauren and Nancy (Gary); her grandchildren Blake, Paige and Haley; her partner Lloyd Hood and his family and countless cousins and devoted friends. Her life was filled with deep and fulfilling relationships, many that began in her childhood.
Based on Joan's love of both art and education she had set up the Paul Weinger Memorial Scholarship Fund and Award Program in conjunction with the North Shore Art League.
