

Vernon graduated from Maryville College and Yale Law School. He served as an Army Air Corp pilot and a navigation school instructor during WWII and an Air Force pilot and JAG officer during the Korean Conflict. Vernon’s long career was in corporate law, primarily with Montgomery Ward.
His first marriage, to Marvle Woolard in 1944, ended in divorce. He married again in 1960 and celebrated 52 years of marriage with Elizabeth Martin Lloyd before she died in 2012. He was exceedingly proud of his six children.
His avocations included music and sports during his youth, Boy Scout leadership, and most prominently, leadership as an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church, including service on judicial commissions and as Vice-Moderator with the Church’s first African-American Moderator, Edler Hawkins, in 1964.
Vernon has always been known for his genial, optimistic spirit, as well as his faith and devotion to principle and duty.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Lloyd Kramer, as well as by his wife, Betty.
He is survived by a brother, Hal Baldwin Lloyd (Mary Ellen), and a sister, Louise Lloyd Palm (Jim); six children: Sharon Willy (Ed) , Gayle Blansett (Eual), Norm Currie (Shirley), Tricia Lloyd-Sidle (Phil), Debbie Currie (Judy), Becky Wanberg (Ted), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
