Madelon was born on May 4, 1945, in New York City, a daughter of Beatrice (Korones) and George Rose. She died April 2, in Chicago. Moving to Peoria, IL at age 5, she was a midwesterner at heart. She attended Lake View High School in Chicago, graduated from Chatham College, in Pittsburgh, PA and returned to Chicago to attend graduate school at the University of Chicago in the School of Social Service Administration. Madelon worked as a social worker in the Chicago Public Schools. After the death of her father, she helped manage the family retail business.
In 1970, she married Roger R Fross. They lived in the same house for over 40 years in a wonderfully inclusive Hyde Park neighborhood. Part of the year, they also spent at their beloved Michigan summer cottage where they were fortunate to be part of yet another embracing community. In 2019, they downsized to apartment living and embarked on what they had hoped would be a new adventure. Roger predeceased Madelon in 2021.
She is survived by her son, Oliver Ofton, daughter in law Naya, grandsons Miro M. And Luca L., her sister Sandra Pomerantz and nieces Fran Pomerantz and Amy Pomerantz (Curt Altholz).
