Richard Lee Jones

Richard Lee Jones passed away August 3, 2021, after an arduous, five-month fight for his life. Richard was married for 34 years to Bonita Canavan and the loving father of Ian, Hayley, Melanie and Faith Jones; beloved brother of Robert Jones (Nancy), James Jones and Jeffery Jones (Regina); loving son of the late Charlotte Marie Jones (nee Williams) and the late Robert William Jones; brother-in-law of Valerie Canavan, Beth (Owens) and Karl Canavan, and Katie Newsham; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend to many.

Rick was raised in Lincoln, Illinois and graduated with a degree in law enforcement from Western Illinois University. Rick worked at Caterpillar in Peoria and later attended John Marshall Law School. He practiced law for the Chicago Transit Authority, City of Chicago Corporation Counsel, Hoffman Burke & Bozick, became a partner in the law firm of Ryan, Smolens and Jones, and ended his career litigating cases for the Law Office of Stephen P. Rapp in Quincy, Illinois, and as a Hearing Officer for the Village of Skokie.

Rick was known for his extensive knowledge of cars, was passionate about auto racing and most loved a fast ride in his ‘75 white Corvette. Rick loved music, growing plants and cacti, hunting and being outdoors. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. followed by prayers and a eulogy by his daughter Hayley, at Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hadley School for the Blind www.hadley.edu.
