

Sharon Barr Pincus, 85, died peacefully in New York City on November 21st, 2023, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Sherri was born on April 6, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Esther Barr. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ted Pincus, granddaughter Emma Hartman, son-in-law David Casey, brothers Howard and Chester, and former husband Benjamin Zitron. She is survived by daughters Anne Zitron Casey and Jennifer Zitron Suomi; stepchildren Laura Pincus Hartman, Mark J. Pincus (Hilary Shaw), and Susan Pincus Sherman (David); grandchildren Sam (Nicole) Casey and Clara Casey - Olivia Suomi - Rachel Hartman - Ned, Gordie, Addie, Eli, and Jacob Sherman – Georgia, Carmen, Wyatt, and Enzo Pincus; great grandsons Teddy and Harry Casey; sisters Eileen Chudnow and Diane Lilly; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Sherri was unstoppable in 1970s NYC. She created the School of Contemporary Cooking and was a successful caterer and cookbook author. She married Ted in 1988 and started a new chapter in Chicago. Together, they travelled and sailed the world. She was active in many philanthropic endeavors, including serving on the Board of Meals on Wheels Chicago. Sherri loved family, entertaining, reading, art, theater, and ballet. Her love and light were precious to all who knew her.
Friends and family will gather for a funeral service for Sharon that will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at 11 a.m. at Chicago Sinai Congregation, 15 West Delaware Place, Chicago, Illinois.
Memorial contributions in Sherri's name to the UJA Federation Israel Emergency Fund or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society would be appreciated.
