Vincent Ignatius “Vince” Nicholson, 81, lifetime Wilmette, Illinois resident, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. Born in Evanston, Illinois on January 17, 1942, Vince was the youngest of seven boys born to Leo P. Nicholson and Helen (Young) Nicholson. He was a beloved uncle and godfather to many nieces and nephews, and friend to all. Vince was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Leo, and brothers Leo, Robert, Paul (PJ), Patrick, Thomas and Daniel.
Vince graduated from Saint Francis Xavier Grade School in Wilmette and St. George High School in Evanston. Since childhood, he spent his summers in Fontana, WI, on Lake Geneva, where he had a lifelong love for the water and boating.
Vince’s love of the water led him to volunteer for the United States Navy, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his courageous service in the Vietnam War. After the war, Vince became a journeyman electrician and was a proud member of IBEW Local 134, in a distinguished career that included working for Dor-O-Matic, the Continental Bank and the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago.
“Uncle Vince” was a generous man, always willing to help family and friends. Uncle Vince was a tremendous storyteller, who shared his life experiences and family history with all. He was happy, gregarious, and fun-loving. Vince had many close lifelong friends he maintained since childhood. His friends and family will deeply miss his wit, humor and friendship.
