Born 1/18/1925 Eternal Life 7/3/2015
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend, Anita "Annie" Granados. Annie's parents were Felipe Madrigal and Manuela de la Torre. She was born in Watts, California and attended St. Lawrence Brindisi Catholic School. The family moved to Wilmington after the Great Depression where she attended the local schools which included Banning High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Henry Granados. They were married at Holy Family Catholic Church in 1946 and remained married until Henry passed away in 2012. Together they cared for their son Raymond who had special needs and attended Exceptional Children's Foundation in San Pedro and Fairview Developmental Center as well as three daughters who attended Holy Family Catholic School and Mary Star of the Sea High School. She devoted her life to providing a nurturing home, and to providing a gathering place for family and friends. She was a loving Nana to seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Annie will be remembered for her great cooking, her great wisdom, her story-telling and her sense of importance for family and friendship. She will also be remembered for her advocacy for the fair and excellent treatment of those with special needs.
She was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in August, 2014 and lived the remainder of her life with dignity and grace. We thank the staff of Reliance Hospice, her caregivers Lina Sanchez, Manuela Arce and Ana Velasco-Lopez; Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny and Ronnie Alpine who all contributed to keeping her physically and spiritually comfortable.
Annie is survived by her three daughters, Theresa (Robert) Rodriguez, Bridget (Eli) Bantiles, Claudia (Steve) Hansen; five grandchildren, Catherine Rodriguez, Stephen (Erin) Lotta, Marisa (Jeff) Lippen, Natalie Bantiles, Brian Bantiles, Bridget (Christian) Kiernan, Erin Hansen; five great grandchildren, Grace and Jameson Lotta; McKenzie, Mason and Jordyn Lippen; siblings Eleanor Urrea, Vera Freeman, Angelina (Ernie) Martinez and Bob (Gloria) Madrigal and countless godchildren and surrogate children and grandchildren.
