
Cecil Dunbar Robbins, Jr. of Leland, North Carolina, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at home. He was born in Washington DC on January 18, 1930, son of Cecil D. Robbins, Sr. and Mattye Chocklett. Mr. Robbins is survived by his wife of 56 years, Drew Fulcher Robbins and two sons, Cary D. Robbins of Wilmington, James (Jim) Robbins and wife, Sherri of Sarasota, Fla. And daughter Lynne Robbins Bowie and husband Richard Bowie of Leland, NC. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anne Robbins Brannigan, of Temecula, CA, and Mrs. Jene Dent of Port Haywood, VA; Nine grandchildren: Chad Bowie, Matt Bowie, Nichole Alexander, Danielle Robbins, Adam Robbins, Josh Robbins, Freddy Marlowe, Teddy Marlowe, Martie Marlowe Brown, and 7 great-grandchildren.
After graduation from George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA and four years in the US Navy, Mr. Robbins moved to Wilmington, NC and began his career in 1952 with Swift & Company Agri.Chem.Div. and later transferred to Columbia, SC. In 1960, he worked for a short time with Monroe Calculating Machine Company. In 1963 after moving to Florence and Darlington, SC, he worked with Life Insurance Company of Virginia and transferred back to Wilmington, and later joined Midland Life Insurance Company. In 1977 he joined Federal Paper Board Company doing Accounting, Human Resources, and Purchasing, and retired in 1992 after 15 years of service.
Mr. Robbins was a faithful member of Long Leaf Baptist Church and the Centurions of Long Leaf Baptist. He was a member in good standing with the Orient Masonic Lodge No. #395 A.F. & A.M. in Wilmington, NC.
The family will be receiving friends and guests on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 10:00 AM, followed by an 11:00 AM memorial service at Long Leaf Baptist Church by Pastor Eugene Ridley. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Centurions of Long Leaf Baptist Church and Community Hospice of Leland.
