Chuck was born on March 8, 1929 in Hallsboro, NC, the second of seven children born to the late Charles Alfonzo Maultsby and the late Ava Marie Mintz.
He joined the US Navy in 1948 to “see the world” and spent almost 30 years in service to his country. During that time, he rose through the enlisted ranks, serving, finally, as the Chief Engineering Officer on several Navy ships. He retired in 1976 at the Fleet Training Group in San Diego, CA. Chuck also served with distinction in Korea and Vietnam, earning the National Defense Service Medal with one star, the Good Conduct Medal with three stars, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with three stars.
It was during a brief New York City shore leave that he met his wife of 56 years, Rosann Gallagher. No one could have been more different from Chuck than the Brooklyn-born, Irish Catholic, Rosann, but they lived the military life for almost 30 years, producing three daughters along the way, before finally settling in Chula Vista, CA. Chuck and Rosann returned to his beloved North Carolina in later life and spent several contented years among family and friends.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Rosann (Gallagher) Maultsby; his children, Kristen Maultsby and her husband, Keith Long, of Belmont, MA, Alison Maultsby of Leland, NC and Megan Maultsby and her husband, Robert Toner, of Belmont, MA; his grandchildren, Meredith and Kieran Long and Emma Toner; his sister, Katy Marie White of New Bern, NC; his brothers, James Edward Maultsby of Wilmington, NC and David Randolph Maultsby of East Palatka, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his sisters, Mary Eloise Thomason, Doris Larraine Pavelchak and Jeanette Rollins.
A devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a beloved brother and a true patriot. He will be missed and mourned by many.
