Charlie Norris

Charlie ""Sonny"" Norris, 85, of Leland, NC, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was born on February 16, 1924 in Wilmington, NC, the son of the late Charlie Norris, Sr. and Sudie Rogers Norris. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Edna Lanier Norris and Louise Maready Norris, a son-in-law, Harry Hamilton, and a sister, Gladys Foister. Mr. Norris was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII as a member of the Armed Guard. He was a member of Middle Sound Advent Christian Church. Sonny retired from the Civil Service and also operated Ogden Auto Sales. Surviving are two daughters, Dianne Norris Hamilton, Debra Norris Langley and husband Jerry; a stepson, Robert Brown and wife Julie; one sister, Marguerite Jenkins; four grandchildren, Kelley Garst and husband Gary, Charles R. Hamilton and wife Valerian, Wendy DuBose and husband Kent, and Leslie Langley; five great grandchildren, Parker DuBose, Trinity White, Charley Garst, Sophie Garst, and Isabella Hamilton; three step-grandchildren; a niece, Elaine Congleton and husband Rick; a nephew, Henry Jenkins, Jr. and wife Pamela; and a special friend, A. Ray Richardson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel and other times at the residence of Jerry and Debbie Langley. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel by Rev. Wilbur Horrell and A. Ray Richardson. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Hamilton, Kent DuBose, Gary Garst, Jr., David Norris, Henry Jenkins, Jr., and Alton Fairfax.
