

Cheryl Ann Stone Murphy, 60, of Wilmington, North Carolina, died Monday, August 25, 2008, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Cheryl was born December 8, 1947, in Burlington, North Carolina, daughter of Arthur C. Stone and Beulah T. Stone. During her childhood, the family moved to Belle Glade, Florida. Following graduation from Belle Glade High School, she moved to Wilmington where she married and raised her only child and beloved daughter, Michelle. Cheryl worked at Bryant Real Estate in Wrightsville Beach as Resort Property Manager for 20 years. Prior to Bryant, she worked at Figure Eight Real Estate. In addition to her dedication to her career and family, she enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, shopping, and playing cards. She was an avid World Tavern Poker player having participated in local, regional and national poker tournaments. In November of 2007, she traveled with her son-in-law and poker partner in crime to Las Vegas to play in the World Tavern Poker Open where she proudly ""took out"" Greg ""Fossilman"" Raymer, the 2004 World Series of Poker main event winner. Cheryl was predeceased by both parents and husband, Ken Murphy. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Murphy and her husband, Kevin Parker of Wilmington, and sister, Barbara Wood of Hayesville, NC. Additionally, she is survived by her granddogs Chloe, Cruiser and Scarlett and one grandcat, Little Boy . A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Cheryl will be held at 5:00pm on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Bluewater Grill at Wrightsville Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts honoring Cheryl may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Cheryl's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their care and support during this difficult time.
