Dearest Josi, Larry and I send our deepest heartfelt condolences to you and all of y'all's family.  We were looking at all of the pictures this morning and remembering all of the fun we use to have.  Playing Shang-hi Rummy at the dining room table.  Larry would be cheating with too many cards and Clegie would be singing, "Jack-a-diamonds, Jack-a-diamonds.  Clegie and Larry fishing at Carlye, not sure how many fish were caught but a bunch of beer was consumed.  Parties in the garage shooting pool or darts.  Coming down for vittles when my parents would come to visit.  Y'all would swear you could smell the food at your house.  Great times we shared!  We are so happy that we got to visit back in July of 21 and reminisce about a great friendship we all shared.  We will miss him!  PS:  Big Howard will have the sausage gravy and biscuits ready in heaven when Clegie arrives!

Although Tiina and I live on the corner, at the stop sign, 
Clegie would stop as required, but go beyond that when he saw you out there.  He always gave a hearty greeting that was uplifting and left you with a quip or two that steered you in positive direction
lubricated by a chuckle to dwell on.
Want you to know that we will really miss Clegie,but at the same time have these moments that will make us remember him.



My sincerest condolences for all of Clegie's beautiful family.  I thoroughly enjoyed going through each picture and memory.  I first met Clegie in 1983 when he hired me to be the NCOIC at the OL-J PJ indoc course.  He was an incredible Commandant and consummate professional with both students and instructors alike.  If the Student was giving 100%, he would give 1000% to ensure they got through one of;  if not the most, difficult course in DOD.   PJ's even today are enjoying the legacy, equipment and techniques that Clegie provided to that course.   He was one of the best bosses I ever worked for in 20 years as a PJ.  May you Rest In Peace Clegie, you left your mark.  

There are no words that can describe what a great person Clegie was. I kept house for Joann and Clegie a long time ago. He always had a kind word when I needed it. Joann, I hope you find comfort in knowing that he's made his trip to heaven. He was a good person. God bless you and your family. I hope find strength in knowing he's in a better place.

We have been neighbors for almost 17 years.   He was one of the nicest men I’ve ever met.  He loved his family, his dogs and his goldfish.  (Had to throw in the goldfish after a conversation with his wife yesterday).    He will be missed by all of us.

There is an old song I heard a long time ago and I believe the name of it was my Buddy. It could have been written for Cleigie.  He was a good friend, a buddy and so much more to so many people.  I am thankful that I knew him.

JoAnn, I was so shocked when Barb told me the news.  So glad I was able to see both of you at Barbs birthday gathering.

As a young trainee at the Pararescue Indoctrination Course, “Sergeant Chambers” was not the first PJ that I ever met but he has had that most lasting impact on my life - even to this day. To us PJ students, he was both a fire-breathing dragon and an 800-pound gorilla; but that was just the façade he needed to mold us into PJs. It was in my class’s first week at the OL-J and he had us students repetitively running wind sprints while he sat in the bleachers like some kind of deity staring down at us mere mortals. At the end of the exhaustive event, he called out three or four of us by name and said we had an appointment tomorrow with the sport physician (Dr. Waters) at Wilford Hall and we’d better not be late! Dr. Waters recognized my supinating foot problem, prescribed corrective running shoes, and saved my PJ career! You see, this was my second time trying out for PJs and the first has ended when I was unable to continue training due to crippling leg and foot pain – and it was starting to happen again. As it turned out, the day prior at the running track, Clegie was actually evaluating each student (about 50 guys at that point) to see if any one of us had a situation that could cause problems in training later. While I kind of saw it at the time, the pipe-line was challenging enough that I didn’t dwell on it too much. That was 1984. Reflecting upon it years later, I realized for the brief eight-week period, Clegie Chambers became kind of a father figure to me (and I’m sure many others) and he helped set the path for my life’s journey. While I only got to see him once after the OL-J (at Jason Cunningham’s Air Force Cross ceremony), I was thrilled – he just smiled like the fire breathing gorilla I remembered and said it was good to see me too. He will always be special to me.

My heart felt condolences go out to all of the family and friends of this man that impacted so many of us. 
Clegie Chambers made me, and many like me better for having been under his heavy hand during training at the OLJ.  We were hardened by one of the best.

 Clege and I were classmates and good friends at Pararescue school. Tom Gleisberg and I had the privilege of visiting Clege and his lovely family in Tennessee back in the day.

Clegie and I were classmates during PJ school in 1970.  We later served together in Guam.  I continue to give him the utmost respect and admiration.  I am convinced he was the catalyst that got me through SCUBA school.  Rest in Peace Brother.

I worked for Clegie as the NCOIC of the OL-J at Lackland AFB when he was the Commandant of the Pararescue Indoctrination school.   He was one of the best bosses I ever worked for or with.   His legacy lives on through the many Pararescueman who graduated this course under his Command.  He was tough but fair and instructors and students alike respected him.   His legacy lives on as the students even today are training with techniques and equipment that he brought onboard to improve the program.

Clegie made a career in USAF Pararescue risking his life to save others. Now he's with the Rescue Angel.
