

He graduated from Bradford High School in June 1951, with a Scholastic Award for trips to various industries in the Northeast. After graduation from High School, he attended R.I.T. in Rochester, New York and the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford Campus in Bradford, PA.
Mr. Wight owned and operated Sam’s TV repair shop. In 1957, he joined Corning as an engineering technician. Some of his endeavors involved utilizing lasers for trimming resistors to value instead of mechanically cutting wheels. Working with other Corning chemists they were able to improve faster application of coating materials, improve solvent systems using solid state machine controls, instead of mechanical relays, increase intensity loading carriers for higher outputs and computer inspection control of various components at high speeds, He also utilized linear motion motors instead of mechanical cam equipment. He retired as Senior Manufacturing Engineer in 1995.
Ron was married to the light of his life Betty Anna for 62 years. During retirement he and Betty traveled together to many places, including London and Paris. They toured the Mayan culture and made several trips to Eastern and Western Caribbean Islands. They went to Las Vegas several times to attend slot tournaments, panned for gold in the Denali area along with visits to a center owned by previous Iditarod winner for sled dogs being raised and trained while watching a Grizzly Bear with her cub in the wild. They watched sunsets in Anchorage, toured the inside passage while going south to Vancouver, and enjoyed a train ride from Toronto culminating in a trip through the Canadian Rockies to Vancouver, which included a motorized trip up to the top of the Athabasca Glacier. They spent time with their friends in their condo in Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii and later in their home in Monterey, California and marveled at the different waterfalls in the Continental Divide. The last adventure was a journey through the Panama Canal from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They picked cashew nuts in the rain forest in Costa Rica, watched the cliff divers in Acapulco and experienced a 6.0 earthquake while there and spent a full day at the San Diego Zoo before heading back home. That was Ron and Betty’s last trip together before she passed in 2017.
Ron and Betty Anna have three wonderful children, that have all made their way and are successful in their lives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Anna Johnson Wight and his sister-in-law, Betty Wight.
He is survived by his daughters: Lee Anne Dyches and husband David of Wilmington, NC and Julie Elaine Wight of Port Orange, Florida; son: Ron Wight, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; granddaughter: Anna Victoria Dyches of Wilmington, NC; brother Jerry Lee Wight of Rochester, New York and close family friend, Paul Sutphin.
The family would like to thank his many caregivers during his illness.
The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Coble Funeral Service Chapel, 1155 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC. The Funeral Service will begin promptly at 2pm with Reverend Kevin Mullins officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
