

Daniel “Dan” L. Justice of Wilmington, N.C. died March 17, 2016 in Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was born November 11, 1921 in Charleston, South Carolina son of the late Lee Andrew Justice and Louise Poston Justice. When he was two years old, he moved to Wrightsboro, N.C. He was educated at Wrightsboro Elementary School and New Hanover High School from which he graduated in 1939. He was a member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church in his youth.
During high school, Dan worked for the J.C. Penny Company. After high school, he worked for A & P and the Tea Company on Market Street. He was an electrical welder for four years In the Wilmington Shipyard. During WW II, he served as Corporal First Class in the N. C. State Guard.
In 1941, he married Anne L. Jackson of Beulaville, N.C. and resided in Wilmington until they moved to Gastonia, N.C. in 1947 where he worked for Armour Food Company for twenty years. Then, they moved to Asheville, N.C. for three years to continue his work with Armour. After that, he was employed by Armour for another twenty years in Charlotte, N.C. During this time, he attended management classes at the University of Chicago. He retired from Armour after thirty-five years of service. Upon retiring from Armour, he worked as a consultant.
Dan was an active member of East Gastonia Baptist Church in Gastonia, N.C., Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Asheville, N.C. and Grace Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C. He served as a deacon in all three churches. Upon retiring and moving back to Wilmington in 1991, Dan and Anne joined Winter Park Baptist Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years, Anne L. Jackson Justice, by his sister, Gloria Mosher and her husband, Bob, and by his two brothers, Charlie R. Justice and Allen Justice. Surviving are his loving daughter, Deborah Justice Owens, and her husband, Kerry, of Richmond, VA and his grandchildren, Kamaron Goodrich and her husband, Seth, Nathan Owens, and Jeremy Owens and his wife, Lorna. He is also survived by two sisters, Dot Eward and Barbara Anne Torbett, two brothers, Joe Justice and Bobby Justice as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dan really enjoyed his family, his friends, his church and his work with Armour Foods. He also loved fishing, hunting, golfing and growing beautiful flowers and tomatoes in his garden.
