
Donald William Drake, 55, died suddenly, Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in Wilmington. Born May 9, 1953, in Ithaca, NY, he was the son of Betty Heath Drake and the late Donald Edwin Drake. Donnie worked for Smith Corona from 1970 thru 1985. Relocating to Wilmington in late 1985 with his wife, Jay, he was employed by Louisiana Pacific and, the past 11 years, for National Gypsum, as a Plant Engineer. An avid sports enthusiast with a passion for fishing and black powder hunting, he also loved racing RC and slots cars with his daughter Madison. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jay Klos Drake, two daughters, Madison Drake of the home and Donielle Drake, of Wilmington; sister, Barbara Drake of Freeville, NY; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and a multitude of friends who will dearly miss him. The family will receive friends from 7pm to 9pm, on Friday, May 30, 2008, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11am Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, with Rev. Mike Ashcraft officiating. Private interment will be in Sea Lawn Memorial Park, Hampstead, NC. Contributions may be made in Donnie's memory to Port City Community Church, 613 Shipyard Blvd, Suite 104, Wilmington, NC 28401. In addition to much appreciated help and support from many friends and family, the Drake family wishes to convey a special ""thank you"" to Dale and Gail Causey and their family for their love and support.
