

Donald ?Ray? Potter, 55, of Leland, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wilmington on January 6, 1955, the son of the late Linwood and Dora Richards Potter. Ray was the former owner and operator of Potter?s Mobile Home Transporting Company. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing and the mountains. Ray was a loving and giving person with a heart of gold, that always put others ahead of himself. He enjoyed having pig pickin?s and took advantage of any and all opportunities to be with family and friends. He will be remembered by his family as the ?Family Rock? upon which they could always lean. Surviving is his wife of thirty-three years, Linda Kay Potter; one son, Eric Potter and wife Wendy; two grandchildren, Cody Ray Potter and Haley Nicole Potter; two sisters, Debbie Clayton and husband Johnny, Diane DeBose and husband Al; one brother, Ronald Potter; several nieces and nephews; numerous friends; and his special buddy, ?Little Rascal Ray?. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, April 16, 2010 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Lonnie Holley. The family would like to express a special note of thanks to the nurses on the 10th Floor at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their devotion and care. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Humane Society.
