Doris Kenan Russ

Laura Doris Kenan Russ Laura ""Doris"" Russ, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Davis Health Care Center. Doris was born November 22, 1919 in Burgaw, NC, daughter of the late Joseph E. and Laura Moore Kenan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Wilbur Lucian Russ, daughter, Sherrie Louise Russ, brothers, Emerson Kenan and Harlee Kenan, sister, Melba Kenan Herring, and stepmother, Annie Childress Kenan. A loving Christian wife, mother, and grandmother, Doris leaves behind four daughters, Gail Johnston and husband, William, Judy Whitney and husband, Charles, Janice Ludwig and husband, Jerry deceased, of Rocky Point, NC, and Cherrie Pridgen and husband, Michael deceased, of Wilmington, NC; brother, William S. Kenan and wife, Ruthanne, of Raleigh, NC; twelve granddaughters; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Doris was a 1937 graduate of New Hanover High School. She was a faithful, active member of Long Leaf Baptist church for over fifty years. In her later years, she joined Northside Baptist Church. A member of Home Demonstration Clubs, a 4-H leader and a player in the ""Razz Ma Tazz"" band, which she loved. Doris kept scrapbooks of her life's activities and she never met a stranger. A visitation will be held, before the service, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. The funeral service will be 2:30pm Tuesday, at the funeral home, with Minister Parks Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dave Zoglman, Scott Aiken, Caleb Wells, Kevin Lapper, Glenn Pleasant, Alex Rhodes, and Tim Boyd. The family wishes to thank all our wonderful caregivers at Davis Health Care Center for their dedication. Special thanks to the caregivers on West Wing One.
