

Dr. Stephen Foster Collins, 84, of Wilmington, died at his home on November 15, 2017. He was born on May 18, 1933, in Mount Eden, Kentucky to the late Dr. Lister Collins and Mary Elliott Collins. He graduated from the University of Kentucky and the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine. He completed his internship at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, after which he returned to his hometown in Kentucky and practiced family medicine for 5 years. He moved to Wilmington with his wife and family in 1969, where he worked in the Emergency Department of New Hanover Regional Medical Center for many years. He also served as the jail doctor for New Hanover County. He later had a private practice in Riegelwood and Delco, North Carolina, and was the physician for Federal Paper. He retired in 2000 after having practiced medicine for thirty-five years.
Dr. Collins is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Leah Rose Collins, a son, Dr. Samuel B. Collins (Katie), a daughter, Roseanna C. Horne (Steven) and five grandchildren, Rachel Collins, Alex Collins, Caroline Collins Horne, Sophia Collins and Foster Collins, all of Wilmington.

A graveside service will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, NC, on Monday, November 20, 2017, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
