Dr. Thomas Broffman, son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, doggie dad and friend to many, 74, of Wilmington, NC departed life peacefully on 4-6-26. Born in New York City, Nov. 24, 1951, Thomas grew up in Warren, PA. He graduated Warren Area High School. He received his BSW and MSW from the University of Pittsburgh. His mid-life crisis was completing his PhD in Social Work at Boston College.
Tom was fortunate to have had three careers. He started as a clinical social worker for the Providence VA Hospital. He also served as a consultant at the Eleanor Slater Hospital in RI. He was a social work professor at Eastern CT State University, St. Josephs University and Anna Maria College. He was affectionately dubbed Dr. B by his students at Eastern who could neither pronounce nor spell his name. He owned and operated Broffman Training and Consulting Services for over 25 years and was a regionally known trainer.
Tom loved the Pittsburgh Steelers the Pitt Panthers, yoga, Motown music and walking with his dogs, Jake and Jerry. We will always remember his beautiful smile, his caring personality, his generosity, and his enthusiastic spirit. His presence in our lives will be sorely missed. When you think of Tom, celebrate the good memories you have of him. Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest.
Tom leaves his brothers Bret Broffman and Alan Benjamin Broffman; daughter, Eve Broffman; partner, Miriam Brooks; and uncle, Ivan Newman. He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys Penna Newman Broffman, a Holocaust survivor; his stepmother Maribel Broffman and his father Saul Broffman.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Temple of Israel or the charity of your choice. For those who would like to view remotely, zoom instructions are below:
