
Dr. Ethel Brown Margolis was a 1955 graduate of Girls Latin School in Boston, a 1959 graduate of Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA, and a 1963 graduate of Boston University School of Medicine. She had an illustrious academic career, graduating second in her medical school class and becoming a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a Medical Honor Society. She practiced Pediatric Medicine in New York and Omaha, NE, most notably as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Creighton University in Omaha, and a Staff Physician and Medical Director of ODA Primary Care Health Center in Brooklyn, NY. When she and her late husband retired to Kure Beach in 1993, she became an integral member of the Jewish community at B’nai Israel Synagogue in Wilmington.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Irving Margolis.
She is survived by her daughters, Melissa of Alameda, CA, and Carol Margolis and her husband Drew Heilpern, of Waltham, MA; her brother William Brown, of Franklin, MA, her sister Andrea and her husband Richard Falzone, of Holliston, MA.
The funeral service will be held at B’nai Israel Synagogue, located in Wilmington at 2601 Chestnut Street, on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 1:00 PM with a burial at the Hebrew Cemetery in Wilmington to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Oncology Division, and B’nai Israel Synagogue of Wilmington, NC.
