Gregory Louis Meyers

Greg Meyers was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the beloved son of Louis Joseph and Joan Niemeier Meyers. During his high school years, Greg moved to Wilmington, where he discovered his gift for carpentry—a craft that became both his livelihood and his passion. He honed his skills with Stier Construction, building beautiful custom homes throughout Wilmington and the surrounding beaches. Among his proudest accomplishments were the homes he built for family members, including his own. Later, Greg founded Finishline Carpentry, specializing in exquisite custom staircases that reflected his artistry and dedication.

In 2023, Greg faced the life-changing diagnosis of ALS. Though the disease took away his ability to work with his hands, it never diminished his courage, humor, or spirit. Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, Greg met each challenge with grace and strength. His happiest moments were spent under the sun, surfing the waves at the beach or traveling to Costa Rica for surf trips with friends. Family was at the heart of Greg’s life, and he cherished every gathering and shared memory.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Louis Joseph Meyers. He leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Cindy Everett Meyers of Wilmington; his mother, Joan Meyers of Aiken, SC; sister Lynn Smits of Aiken, SC; brother Kelly Meyers of New Smyrna Beach, FL; nieces Wendy Smits (Aiken) and Caroline Smits (Charlotte); and great-niece AnnaGrace Breeden (Aiken).

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who prayed for Greg and to the friends who brought joy through visits and lunches—Marc Hoffman, Greg Stier, and Rob Herbert. Special thanks to the compassionate caregivers and medical teams at Novant ICU, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Dr. Kathryn Newell, Yvonne Carpenter, and the ALS organizations in Wilmington and Chapel Hill.

Greg’s advice to us all: “Life is short—enjoy the sunny days and catch some waves.”

A graveside service will be held in March at Oleander Memorial Gardens on Bradley Drive in Wilmington, NC.
