

With both joy and much sadness we announce the earthly death of Harvey Thomas "Tom" Covil on January 9, 2024, at the age of 82. He was surrounded by family members and friends for many days prior to his death.
Tom was born at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington on March 21, 1941. He was the son of the late Victor and Viola Covil of Wilmington, NC.
He had five siblings: Jim, Susie, Ron, Dean, and Amelia. He fathered five daughters: Kecia, Joelle, Sonya (Scott), Brandi, and Victoria (Andrew). He also had one step-daughter, Alicia (David). Additionally, he had 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Joelle, and sister, Ameila.
Tom temporarily leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Linda Diggs Covil. His wife, daughters, other family members and friends flocked around Tom during the last days of his mortal existence. He was deeply touched by the outpouring of love and affection with which he was blessed.
Tom was Class President of the first four year Senior Class at what was then known as Wilmington College, the forerunner of UNCW. Also, in his senior year he received the prestigious Hoggard Medal, the highest distinction awarded by the college. Following his college years, Tom's gift of gab and sparkling personality easily brought him much success as a salesman in the medical diagnostics field.
The family extends very special thanks to Novant ICU and 7th floor nurses and also to Lower Cape Fear Life Care.

A Remembrance Service and visitation will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hampstead on Saturday, January 13, 2024 . Family will welcome visitors at 1 pm. Remembrance Service will be at 2pm, with the graveside service immediately following at the LDS Cemetery on Hwy 210 in Hampstead
