Irene B Bohannon

She was born in Wilmington, NC to the late William Davis Bell and Mariah Coston Bell on December 29, 1923.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40 years, Jackie C. Bohannon, sisters: Daisy Bell Lee, Lillian Gertrude Bell, Edna Bell Allen and her brother: Ernest Ardell Bell.

A lifelong resident of Wilmington, NC, Irene graduated from NHHS in 1942. She retired from Bell South Telephone Company and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a RSVP member volunteering at the Senior Resource Center for 23 years. Irene was a faithful member of Masonboro Baptist Church where she had served as Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, class secretary kitchen committee member, and bereavement committee member.

Irene is survived by her sons Larry E. Bohannon and wife Sharon Hamilton of Winston Salem and Robert W. Bohannon and wife Norma of Seymour, CT. She is also survived by her grandson Jeffrey Mehegan and wife Trina of Salem, Oregon.

Also surviving is her close friend and neighbor Martha Dillion and as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412 with the Reverend Wes Hunter and the Reverend Gordon Wright officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonboro Baptist Church or Lower Cape Fear Life Care.
