Irene L. Walton

Irene Walton, age 99, of Leland died on Wednesday November 27, 2013 at Silver Stream Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on October 3, 1914 to George m. Ludlum and Myrtie S. Ludlum. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur C. Cheers and husband, Willie Walton; son, David Walton; four sisters, Ava Dixon, Ruby Mercer, Vera Hewett and Geneva Grissett; two brothers, Alton Ludlum and Lenzy Ludlum.

She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and loved and respected her Pastor, Rev. Jim Herchanhahn.

Irene is survived by her son, W. C. Cheers and wife Gail; daughter, Linda Edwards and Husband Joseph; brother, Malloney Ludlum, who resides in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Walton also had seven grandchildren, Craig Cheers and wife Tammy, Tonya Harker and husband Tony, Karmel Fowler and husband Todd, David Walton, Jr., Kimberly Young and husband Jullian, Keith Edwards and wife Angel, Elizabeth Graham and husband Lynwood; Seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Monday December 2, 2013 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00pm.Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive Wilmington, NC 28409.

The family wishes to thank her homecare nurses, Judy Bryan, Bobbie Acie, Shannon Johnson and Dolly Garrell as well as her nurses at Silver Stream for their love and dedication.
