He is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Maria “Mimi” Hardin; his sisters Minaree Vassey, Janet Hardin, and Donna Martin; and his brother, Clark Hardin.
Born on June 16, 1959, in Carpenter, North Carolina, Kent lived a full and vibrant life. He was a proud member of the Wilmington Scottish Society and had an adventurous spirit that led him and Mimi to travel extensively throughout the United States and abroad.
Kent dedicated many years of service to Duke Energy, where he was respected for his unwavering work ethic, strong leadership, and generous mentorship. He forged deep connections with his colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Outside of work, Kent found joy in the simple pleasures of life—most especially in the company of his beloved chihuahua, Minnie. Whether walking at the park, cruising the coast in his Jeep, or relaxing on Johnny Mercer's Pier, Kent embraced each day with energy, warmth, and humor. He and Mimi had a special love for the beach and summer sun, but also found peace and wonder in snowy places.
Known for his strength, kindness, quick wit, and open-hearted nature, Kent never met a stranger—he had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and welcomed. He was also a regular at the gym, where his discipline and camaraderie earned him a loyal circle of workout buddies.
Kent leaves behind countless memories for those fortunate enough to have known him. His warm smile, love of the NY Yankees, generous spirit, and steady presence will be missed beyond measure.
A celebration of Kent’s life will be announced at a later date. All who knew and loved him will be welcome to attend.
