James "Roe" Greene

James Roe Greene, 98, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Trinity Grove.

Roe was born August 27, 1919 in Shelby County, KY, son of the late Tolbert E. Greene and Ollie E. Waits Greene. He was preceded in death by three wives, Esther Webber, Reba Pickett, and Mary Francis Williams; two sisters, Elizabeth Tingle and Josephine Waits, a brother, Tolbert E. Greene, Jr., and a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Megee Crews.

He is survived by a daughter, Macie Sue Megee (Carl); son, James Roe Greene, Jr. (Jean); four grandchildren, Tracie DelBosco (Tim), Jared E. Greene (Jennifer), Danna Lynne Green, and Ellen Quinton (Mark); fourteen great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren, all of Kentucky. Also surviving are two stepsons, Norman Powell (Michelle), and John David Powell (Alice); and three step-grandchildren, Cody Powell, Alyssa Powell, and Jacob Christopher Powell, all of North Carolina.

In 1943, Roe began working for the Department of Agriculture as a Tobacco Inspector and retired after 32 years of service. He was a 54 year member of Pine Valley Baptist Church serving on various committees, teaching Sunday School, and helping with Awana, missions included weekly Bible studies at Elderhaus. Roe loved traveling, fishing, hunting, playing golf, and gardening.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, May 21, 2018, at Pine Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Hall officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 1:00 pm until the service hour. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
