April 13, 1921 - May 23, 2026
How do you even begin to describe a person who has lived on the earth for a very long time and who has made such a wonderful impact on countless people for decades?
Jane Edens Cherry, lovingly known as “Grammy” by her family and others, went peacefully to her eternal home in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
She is survived by daughters, Penny Cracker of Wilmington, Phyllis Cherry Fuller (Russ) of Cary, Jane McCloskey (Tom) of Lakeland, Florida. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jane Cherry was predeceased by sons Jim Cherry, Albert Cherry and her youngest daughter, Brenda Cherry, and one granddaughter, Eden Cherry Beal.
She authentically lived a life of service to others, whether as a long-time cafeteria manager of Pine Valley Elementary School, leading youth group mission trips, building Habitat for Humanity Homes, preparing food for church gatherings, modeling dresses in fashion shows to raise money for local domestic violence shelters and services, or volunteering at Vintage Values.
Jane E. Cherry will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of unconditional love, kindness, grace and strength will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: Cape Fear Literacy Council, Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, Special Olympics, or your favorite charity.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Winter Park Presbyterian Church, 4501 Wrightsville Ave. Wilmington.
