

Born January 18, 1947 at James Walker Hospital in Wilmington to the late Talmadge Edward and Martha Ann Batson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Tommy Jackson Kirk.
A graduate of Topsail High School, Jane played basketball and wrote for the school newspaper winning awards and hearts. She attended Miller Monte Business College and graduated with a degree and a host of new friends.
Jane humbly volunteered with Surf City Volunteer EMS for 26 years; she proudly served as Finance Officer and Tax Collector with the Town of Surf City for over 36 years where she retired; as a member of Kiwanis she earned Kiwanian of the year; she was honored to be on the Board of Directors for Pender Memorial Hospital; she was a deserving recipient of the Caring for Others Award from Woodmen of the World; and she was an active member of The Gathering at Surf City Baptist Church.
Jane was always up for a road trip and loved to travel to a variety of places with many friends and family. She had a loving and adventurous spirit and never met a stranger. Her kind and generous nature made it easy for everyone who ever met her to love her and she loved them back. Jane will be missed by so many who's lives she touched just by knowing her.
Jane is survived by her son Anthony Kirk and wife Kathy, daughter Kristie Grubb and husband Jimmy; Grandchildren Eric Haley, Cody Kirk and Ellissa Grubb; brothers Billy Batson and wife Constance, Robert Batson and Donnie Batson; niece Audrea George and husband Brad; nephew Eric Batson and wife Kristen; niece Jennifer Lopez and husband Pablo; nephew Johnny Todd; nephew Scott Todd and wife Sharon; niece Jodi Todd; niece KayTodd; great-nephews Tyler George and wife Chloe, Mason George, Will Batson, Jason Batson, Hunter Graham, Anthony Graham, Corey Williams and Heath Williams; great-nieces Mallory George and Heather Adams; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and adopted sons and daughters that she loved and cared for as if they were her own.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4-7pm at The Gathering at Surf City Baptist Church in Surf City, NC.
Please dress in something colorful as you join us for a celebration of Jane's life at The Gathering at Surf City Baptist Church in Surf City, NC on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 pm. Burial to follow at Sea Lawn Memorial Park in Hampstead, NC.
The family would like to say thank you to the local staff of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Allie Hollingshead for the comfort and care they provided to Mom during the last month. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to Peggy Fussell for a lifetime of friendship and continual care giving throughout Mom's 9 year battle with cancer. For those who sent cards, brought food, sent flowers, called or visited thank you for the love you showed to Mom and us during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship fund at Coastal Bank in Holly Ridge set up for Cody and Ellissa to pursue the education that their Nana wanted most for them.
