

Born in Enoree, SC on March 25, 1934, she was the daughter of Julia Mozelle Moore Poole and Cecil Holcombe Poole.
Her husband, Glasgow Hicks, Jr., preceded her in death on October 17, 1999. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a special cousin, Margaret Poole Littlejohn.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by two children, Janet Hicks Parker and Glasgow Hicks III and three grandchildren, Faison Poole Parker, Holden Wendt Parker and Megan Alexandra Hicks.
Mrs. Hicks is also survived by her husband’s family, whom she regarded as her own: John Hicks and wife Carolyn, Sally Hicks Reardon, Helen Hicks Gant; four nieces.
Mrs. Hicks’ childhood years were spent in Enoree, SC and her youth in Woodruff, SC. She was graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Woodruff High School in 1951.
Each of the four years she was in high school she was awarded the Scholarship Medal, given to the member of the student body with the highest academic average.
Mrs. Hicks attended Converse College, Spartanburg, SC 1951-53, and was graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1955. At UNC-Chapel Hill she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the Order of the Old Well, leadership honorary.
Mrs. Hicks had lived in Wilmington since her marriage on November 19, 1955. She was a member of the Cape Fear Country Club and of the Carolina Yacht Club. She was a representative to the Wilmington Community Council 1961-63. Mrs. Hicks was a charter member of the Oleander Garden Club; and she was a former member of the Junior League of Wilmington, NC and of the Thursday Morning Music Club. She had served several years as a member of the cast of Pied Piper Theater.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Hicks had served in various capacities as Circle Chairman, Bible School teacher, substitute church school teacher, youth fellowship advisor, and as a member of the Worship Committee.
In addition to family, she was blessed with many outstanding caregivers and good friends who helped enrich her later years.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, June 10, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church, 125 South 3rd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401. Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hanover County Humane Society, The Oakdale Cemetery Fund or First Presbyterian Church.
