John Shuford Dickins III was born in Batesville, MS. on July 6, 1940. After Graduating from Mississippi State University in 1962 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he spent 40+ years with Dupont. Always the inventor, his distinguished career included several patents. On October, 19, 1963 he married the love of his life and best friend, Jerri Maready. He was a brilliant man, a great inventor, a wonderful teacher and most importantly a loving husband, father and Pops. He was always willing to share his knowledge and talents. He didn't just solve a problem, but helped you learn to find the solution for yourself. It was one of the greatest gifts he gave his children and associates. In retirement he was not content to rest and could be found working at Habitat for Humanity, was an elder at Winter Park Presbyterian Church, and rarely missed the Dupont retirees breakfast. Most of all he loved his grandchildren: Cameron, Hannah, Kirsten, Madison, Hailey, Cora and Skylar. His departure has left an empty place at our family table, in his recliner, in his Pop's shop and in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine (Jerri) Dickins; daughter, Holli Dickins Jones (George); son John Shuford Dickins IV (Pam); daughter Leigh Anne Wimbish (Mike); sisters, Harriet Westmoreland and Edna Golden, and brother, Bill Dickins, and their spouses. Visitation will be held Monday, September 15 from 6-8 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. A private graveside entombment will be held Tuesday, September 16 at 11:00 at Oleander Memorial Gardens. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held at Winter Park Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, September, 16 at 1:00 followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Lung Association or Habitat for Humanity.
