

Ms. Grimsley was a Clinical Social Worker, certified to provide psychotherapy to adults, children, and families in North Carolina. She worked in the mental health movement since she was a college student and assisted in implementing mental health services in New Hanover County as well as Brunswick County. Ms. Grimsley is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Wilmington, studied psychology at Appalachian State University and earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from East Carolina University. Ms. Grimsley’s work was based on her philosophy that each person is unique and each of us has an important place in the world. She believed that problems are opportunities for growth and that each of us at some time in our life may need the help of a skilled person to help solve our problems and set our priorities. She is a mother of three children and proud grandmother of three.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ennis and Carrie Grimsley; son, Dale Dowless; and brother Stanley Grimsley.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Burroughs and husband Mark; son, Daniel Dowless and wife Kaye; and three granddaughters, Melissa, Allison, and Samantha.
A memorial service will be Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health Hospital.
