Joyce was born in Miami, Florida to the late Frank J. and Bernice Pepper. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Maurine Richardson, Col. Charles Parker, and Frank J. Pepper, Jr., and husband Bryant E. Hearn, Jr.
She spent her youth hunting, fishing, and herding cattle with her family. This love for the outdoors continued throughout her life; for decades, she enjoyed water sports, aerobics, traveling, and more. Joyce was also an active and valued member of her communities. She was the beloved matriarch of a large family. In recent years, she especially treasured daily lunch at Gaylyn’s Diner with her daughter Maureen.
Joyce is survived by her five children: Joyce (Victor Plyler), Bryant Eugene III, Frank (Robin), Maureen (Bryan Fowler), and Patricia (Kwan Cho), five grandchildren: Brandon, Kerry (James Ulery), Kelsey, Cory, and Sarah, and two great-grandchildren: Marley and Finley.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
