

Lawrence passed away on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024. He was born on April 13th, 1940 in Wilmington, North Carolina to Lawrence (Sr) and Lula Mintz. He was the oldest of 5 children. After completing High School when the family lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lawrence joined the Army for a 3-year stint from 1960-1963. Among other duties, he had the opportunity to work on Minuteman missiles in the Panama Canal area and received an Honorable Discharge upon completion of his service time. After leaving the Army and returning to the United States he married Cheryl Hively of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 3rd, 1964. Lawrence worked as an electrician in various capacities, primarily commercial and construction dealings. Lawrence and Cheryl had 2 children and had also migrated to the Seattle, Washington area where Lawrence was employed with Boeing. After Boeing went "bust" in the early 70's, they returned to Wilmington, North Carolina. Lawrence was later employed with Brown & Root and worked as an electrician on various oil platforms overseas from the Persian Gulf to the North Sea within a 10-year period which allowed him to visit multiple countries across the globe including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Philippines and Thailand. Lawrence later worked another stint at Boeing back in Washington State for the Jumbo Jet Mock-Up area before he finally retired in 1999. From there, he returned back to Wilmington, North Carolina, to be closer to family.
Lawrence is survived by his sons, Greg & Gary Mintz, siblings Larry Mintz, Lynn Larose & Owen Mintz and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawrence Mintz, Sr and Lula Mintz, and his brother, Jerry Mintz.
Everyone who knew him knows Lawrence was fiercely independent and lived life on his own terms and in his own way. He will be missed.

A funeral service for Lawrence will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412.
