

Linda Shuford Newton of Wilmington, 72, passed away on April 8, 2014, at Carolina Medical Center-Pineville, in Charlotte, NC. Linda was born on October 23, 1941 in Charlotte, NC to Lee Falls and Marie Goodrum Shuford. Linda is preceded in death by her husband Robert Sasser Newton, Jr. "Bob" and survived by her daughters Anna Elizabeth P. Carroll and K. Lindsay Carroll, step daughter Deidre Newton Jordan and husband Michael, stepson Robert Sasser Newton III "Rob", sister Beverly J. Shuford, and sister Carol S. Blanton and husband Scott. Linda graduated from Shelby High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She went on to work at Eastern Airlines, McDonald's art gallery of Charlotte, and to earn a degree in computer software from Central Piedmont Community College. After moving to the Wilmington area, she worked as a real estate agent for Intracoastal Realty and hobbyist historian with the Federal Point Historic Preservation Society. Linda was integral to the restoration of the Newton Family Cemetery near Kure Beach, NC. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 11 at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Federal Point Historic Preservation Society at 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428. The family would like to thank Karen Johnson and the staff of Home Instead, the Summit Place of Southpark, and Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville for the warmth and caring they provided Linda.
