Michael Lane Woomer

Michael Lane Woomer born on August 31st 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA passed away on Monday, September 23rd, 2013. He is the son of the late Jerome Woomer & Mary Cullen Woomer. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Anthony & Timothy, sister Nancy Gompers.

Michael was a graduate of Georgetown University and served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp.

After the military he met Patricia Brown at a Georgetown Visitation Tea reception and their lives together began. Faith and Family were the foundation of their marriage. They were long time parishioners of St. Louise De Marillac, in Pittsburgh, where all 5 children attended.

Professionally, Michael was a successful business owner and community leader. His attention to detail and engaging personality elevated Michael to outstanding accomplishments in his business.

Personally, Michael never missed any family, religious or holiday celebrations. He loved and cherished summers in Stone Harbor NJ, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and most of all the happiness and success of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Brown Woomer, his brother Patrick & wife Sydney of Chester Connecticut, sisters Molly O’Malley of St. Louis, Mo. & Joan Hamm of Jalisco, Mexico.

Michael is also survived by 5 children. Sheila & Charles Gabler of Uniontown, PA, Michael & Denise Woomer of Duxbury MA, Robert & Sherri Woomer of Pittsburgh PA, Brian & Karen Woomer of Holly Springs, NC, and Amy & Steve Smith of Holly Springs, NC.

Michael is survived by 15 Grandchildren. Michael, Meghan, Alex, Abby, Madeleine, James, Lizzie, Matthew, Heidi, Patrick, Kevin, Andrew Jerome, Craig, Andrew & Sydney and 4 Step-Grandchildren Lucas, Jake, Ty, and Cade.

A celebratory Mass will be held at Basillica of St Mary’s on Friday, September 27th at 10AM. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Michael L. Woomer Scholarship Fund for St. Mary Catholic School 217 S. 4th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 http://www.thestmaryschool.org/
