He was born November 13, 1926, in Duplin County, to the late Commodore Perry Walker and Martha McArthur Walker.
Mac grew up in Beautancus, a small farm town, in Duplin County. He was raised with seven other brothers and sisters. Georgia Bell, Belva, Barbara Ann, Robert, Derl, Henry and his only living brother Charles.
Mac and his siblings grew up hard, working the farm with their dad and mom. After graduating high school, Mac worked construction jobs and was going to agricultural school when he was drafted into the Korean War. He served in the 24th Infantry Division when the war began. Mac was captured by the North Koreans and was a prisoner of war for 28 months. He was discharged in September of 1953, and 5 months later he married his loving wife on Valentines Day, February 14, 1954. They were married for 70 years, raising five children. Mac was an accomplished meat cutter, running several meat departments in several grocery stores in the Wilmington area. Mac was a free bird of sorts doing things his way. He was always a fighter and very determined person. He was a man of few words, but he did love his family and country a great deal. His soft side definitely came out in his later years of life. He loved animals and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mary Rivenbark Walker; children, Marie Wallace (Tommy), Gwen Greene (Paul), Judith Woodyard (Dan), Perry Walker (Barbara) and Susan Hart; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Walker (Precy)
