

He was born in Fayetteville, NC on August 23, 1938 to Christopher Earl Crouch and Janie Crouch Armour. Some of his most vivid memories growing up were reading as many books as he could in the city library, swimming in the community pool, watching movies at the local theater, and walking himself to school on his first day of kindergarten.
Richard graduated from East Carolina University in 1962 with a BA in business and later accepted a contract with State Farm Insurance in Wilmington, NC. His successful career included being awarded the Lifetime President’s Award. Outside of work, he was a 32nd Degree Free Mason, member of the Wilmington Shrine Club and a Theta Chi. Richard enjoyed big game hunting, traveling to Argentina, Canada, and Africa where he collected many prized trophies. He had a passion for American and World history and enjoyed collecting rare books and other items depicting his interest. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church and the Wells Sunday School Class.
Richard is survived by his wife, Cecile; his daughters Cassandra Meckes (husband Scott), Catherine, and Christina; grandchildren Zack, Ella, and Amelia; sister Sandra Joyner and brother Michael Armour.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Bereavement fund and Homeless Ministry fund.
There will be a celebration of Richard’s life on September 1, 2022 at First Baptist Church located at 411 Market St. Wilmington NC. The family will receive friends following the service. The burial will be at 4:00 at Greenlawn Cemetery for family and close friends.
