

Rick was born in Bethesda, MD to the late Captain Carter Brooke Jennings and Marion Bailey Jennings. Rick spent his early years on or near naval bases throughout the southeastern USA. In 1965, the family moved to Wilmington, NC where Rick attended Chestnut Junior High and graduated from New Hanover High School.
Rick worked at a local McDonalds during high school where he met life-long friends. After graduating from UNCW, he attended and graduated from the Navy's Officer Candidate program. He was on active duty for 15 years and in the reserves for 5 years. His favorite assignment was Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he enjoyed one of his favorite hobbies, scuba diving.
After his naval career, Rich wanted to return to Wilmington to be near family and friends. He attended Cape Fear Tech earning a machinist certification and worked at General Electric until retiring in 2018. During his retirement years, Rick enjoyed staying connected with his GE "family".
Rick enjoyed the Carolina Yacht Club, Buccaneer Gun Club, Bible Study at Southside Baptist Church, flying and aviation history, and the local Astronomy Club. He had a unique way of appreciating the history of his hobbies and passions. Rick loved animals and had three cats, Pepper, Snickers, and Joseph who were his loyal companions. He was blessed with friends from throughout his life who were an extended family to him providing much joy and support over the years.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his brother Carter Brooke Jennings, Jr.
Surviving family members are brothers David B. Jennings (Sharon) of Beaufort, SC and Carlisle B. Jennings (Toni) of Hampstead, NC and nephew Robert B. Jennings (Beaufort, SC).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, with visitation at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00am at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 with Pastor Kelly Stanley officiating. Burial to follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
