Shirley Ann Nelson Haywood

Shirley was born on January 19, 1938 in Troy, NC, to the late Reginald Wenon Nelson and Helen Lucille Moore Nelson. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold Eugene (Gene) Haywood and a daughter, Tamara Lynne Haywood Jones.

Shirley was a retired bookkeeper.

Surviving are one son, Richard Eugene (Rick) Haywood and wife Susan of Wilmington, NC; one brother, Reginald Wenon (Bob) Nelson, Jr. of Troy, NC; five grandchildren, Brandi Haywood Hunnings (Daniel) of Grifton, NC, Jeremy Haywood Jones (Christy) of Leland, NC, Cassidy Anne Jones of Leland, NC, Eugenia Haywood Cancino of Roanoke, VA, and Jessica Daigneault (Stephen) of Grifton, NC. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly as well as numerous friends whose friendships she cherished.

Rick would like to say a special thanks to his wife Susan for the many sacrifices she made in being her full-time caregiver for the past 4+ years.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or a cancer foundation of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 followed by services beginning at 2:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park, Hampstead, NC.
