Stephen Melvin Herring Sr.

Steve was born on October 30, 1934 in Harrells, NC.

He was the third of four children born to the late Winnie Louise Mathis Herring Matthews and William James Herring. He is also preceded in death by his brother, J.R. Herring and sisters, Elma Boone and Shelby Evans and grandson, Brent Gaskin.

His passion was being on the river and fishing especially for large catfish. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Stephen M. Herring, Jr., of Manteca, Ca. Melvin (Butch) Herring of Stuart, Fl. and Alesia Powell (Rick)of Hampstead, NC ; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Lower Cape Fear Hospice or a charity of ones choice.
