Muffin was born to the late George and Vera Carlton on August 26, 1953, in Wilmington, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas H. Barnhill, daughter Jennifer Barnhill, son Thomas Barnhill Jr., sister, and three brothers.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and her sister-in-law (and lifelong friend) Linda Carlton.
She retired from Corning in 2016. Locals may fondly remember her from the 25 years she worked at Subway. prior.
Muffin enjoyed the beach, crafting flower arrangements, puzzles, her doll collection, decorating for each holiday, and her Friday game nights with family and friends where there were always great eats and the laughter was side splitting into the am hours!
Her greatest love and joy in life was spending time with her eleven-year-old great nephew Jaxon Brown. She didn’t always understand some of the games and technology he would introduce to her, but she loved every minute he would spend showing and teaching her…especially the fun AI images he created of her!
She was the last of her immediate family and siblings to pass away. She often wondered why she was still here but trusted God’s plan. She showed such great strength through many challenges and losses, was very independent and always the ultimate care giver for everyone in her life over multiple generations.
Muffin was exceptionally generous with her heart and her time. If you needed help or just someone to talk to, she was there. You would never be hungry or without a pair of shoes if she could help it. Words cannot express how much she was loved and how greatly she will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held December 6, 2025, at the Riverview Restaurant in Kure Beach from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, 121 Riverfront Road.
